The Scots are a friendly bunch, and it couldn’t be truer than when it comes to supporting one another in a time of crisis. We hope to re-open Loch Melfort Hotel as soon as is safely possible, but in the meantime, our West coast community has some wonderful ways to get involved and support one another during COVID-19 …
Wash your hands with Skirr Skin
Based just up the road in North Connel, Skirr Skin have created a natural and organic anti-bacterial soap full of sustainable ingredients. Carefully wrapped in compostable Vegware and biodegradable paper, these new local soaps are great as gifts or simply for keeping germs at bay. Treat your hands to an affordable soak in coconut oils, lavender, and tea tree.
You can find them here.
Build your own Afternoon Tea
Get the kettle on and spoil yourself with a miniatures cake box from Catchacarrot Vegan Pop Up Café. Serving vegan and gluten-free cakes (alongside regular options and traybakes), the new bakery offering from Kilmelford provides pretty boxes perfect for an afternoon pit-stop. Choose from mini meringues, Bounty cake, peanut butter crispies, lemon curd tartlets, gingerbread hearts, raspberry and date slices, Viennese whirl, and nutty cupcakes!
Demand has already been high, so get in there fast to avoid missing out! Visit them here.
Dine in West coast style
Our local fishermen are still out and about, ensuring that Oban maintains its reputation as the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’. Push the boat out (see what we did there?) and partake in a little fine dining from home, courtesy of Tom’s Hand Dived Scallops.
Tom drops off at Oban Pier, and orders can be made by getting in touch with him directly: 07455146252
Looking for something bigger? The Fisherman’s Kitchen have now resumed their takeaway/delivery service, offering ‘Seafood Platters’ on Thursday and Friday evenings. The only change to their regular service is that orders will be served in nonreturnable (recyclable where possible) containers. And, of course, they’ll be sticking to social distancing measures.
Party amongst rainbows for Oban Pride
The main Oban Pride event has been postponed due to COVID19, but that doesn’t mean the party has to stop completely! Organisers are inviting you to join them from home, with an Oban Pride 2020 – Let’s Party Spotify playlist going live on 30th May at 12pm. They’ll also be hosting a live quiz on both Facebook and Twitter at 7.45pm.
