Master Suite Balcony

Enjoy one of the many spectacular sunsets over Asknish Bay from the Master Suite balcony. Look out towards the islands of Luing, Scarba and Jura and share a bottle of bubbly or two. Then sink to one knee and pop the question.

Perhaps spell out ‘Marry Me?’ on our lawn with rose petals (or something heavier, if it’s a little breezy). Then lead your loved one out onto the balcony and let them read it for themselves.

Our Restaurant

If you dream of a romantic candlelit dinner for two in our restaurant, overlooking Asknish Bay, you could ask our chef to serve your partner’s engagement ring with dessert. We can arrange for champagne on ice, ready for when they say ‘yes’!

In Front of the Log Fire

Turn up the romance in front of our cosy log fire.
Treat a loved one to a glass of lovely chilled champagne and a delicious afternoon tea. Recline on a sofa in front of a roaring fire and gaze out across at the lawn and sea beyond.
Choose the moment and ask your big question…or perhaps wait until later and seize the day over post-dinner drinks.

On our Decking

When the sun is shining, outside is where you’ll want to propose. Choose a drink from the bar and head outside onto our decking. Breathe in the fresh sea air and take in the truly amazing views out onto Asknish Bay, with Shuna and Jura (in the Inner Hebrides) beyond.

Let us know if you’d like us to set up a table for you – perhaps some flowers and candles, or champagne and chocolates?

Beach at Low Tide

There’s nothing quite like the sound of water lapping on the shore or waves gently breaking on the rocks in the distance. Staying at Loch Melfort means that you have direct access to the beach from our grounds.
There are numerous ideas when it comes to a romantic beach proposal – all ranging in degrees of difficulty and originality. But all that matters is that it means something to you and your partner and that it creates a memory that will last forever.

Why not take a leisurely walk along the shoreline at low tide – perhaps you’d like your loved one to stumble across a message in a bottle or find their engagement ring hidden in a pile of stones arranged in the shape of a heart?

Near the Boathouse

If you love watersports and would like to incorporate this into your proposal, then our Boathouse with its small slipway is the perfect place to launch your romantic plan.

Highland Cows

A sighting of this noble and magnificent of beasts never disappoints. We love Highland Cows and are fortunate to have them within the hotel grounds. If you and your partner love Highland Cows, then why not include them in your proposal? Let us know and we can encourage them (with a tasty morsel or two) to present their best side for any photos or selfies you are hoping to take.

Arduaine Gardens

Take a stroll through the beautiful Arduaine Garden with over 20 acres of woodland and gardens to explore.
Choose from the Lower Garden with its colourful borders, ponds and seating with wonderful vistas or the Woodland with its picturesque arboreum walk.

Find a bench or seat in the gardens, or stand beneath a decorative garden arch and deliver your well-rehearsed lines.

Cliff-top Viewpoint

The stunning cliff-top viewpoint overlooking the Sound of Jura and its islands can be reached from the Woodland Walk in Arduaine Garden. The views on a clear day are simply stunning. Take your loved one’s breath away and reveal the true reason for pausing here to gaze out to sea.

Trig Point View

Feeling a little adventurous? Put on your walking boots, pack a rucksack full of goodies and head up Beinn Chaorach (the Hill of the Sheep), some 257m above Arduaine, on the south shores of Loch Melfort. On reaching the trig point, you will be rewarded with views overlooking Loch Melfort and the islands of the Inner Hebrides in the distance.

If the weather is kind, take some time to take in the view – then pluck up the courage for the moment you have been planning for and say those unforgettable words ‘Will you marry me?’.

If you have ideas of your own or have been inspired by one of ours get in touch so we can turn your dream into reality. We’re romantics at heart and just love a marriage proposal – especially if we can help you make it extra special.
