staycation holiday

After months of self-isolation (and days spent trawling through Netflix for a series you haven’t already seen), a staycation on the West coast of Scotland might be the ideal way to reboot. Here’s why a trip to our remote little part of Scotland is the perfect way to safely feed that 2020 holiday hunger …

A rural location

With so much advice about social distancing and isolation, people are (understandably) apprehensive about taking Scottish holidays in cities and built up areas. Thankfully, the Scottish Highlands is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Europe, dominated by mountains, lochs and open land. Our unique retreat is set amongst 17 acres of quiet gardens and beach, providing lots of personal space to explore the spectacular coastal scenery. We’re comfortably located 30 minutes from the town of Oban, allowing plenty of space to distance, whilst still offering an easy commute.

A Scotland holiday with direct access and remote check in

We understand that safety is of the upmost importance to everyone right now and, as a result, we’re doing everything we can to provide a safe and healthy environment for both our guests and team. In order to minimise contact, we are now offering a remote check-in service for guests. This has eliminated the need to check-in via reception, as guests will receive their room number and additional information by e-mail. Our beautiful Sea-View Lodge rooms can be accessed directly from the outside so that guests can continue to socially distance or self-isolate, whilst enjoying glorious views across the island of the Inner Hebrides.

Explore open Lochs and mountain walks

Those who can’t resist the call to get outdoors will never be short of walk paths and cycle routes in the Scottish Highlands! At 25 miles long, Loch Awe is an easy half hour drive from our secluded sanctuary and has plenty of breathtaking sights and secrets spots to uncover. No matter the weather, Scotland’s dramatic outdoor scenery is a photographer’s playground, and our dedicated team can provide rambling route guidance alongside some of our favourite photo spots.

Create your very own private stargazing experience

At night-time, the skies really do twinkle in Scotland (on account of the low numbers of people per square kilometre). Our dark skies make this small part of the country the ideal place to grab a blanket and head down to the beach to watch the starts sparkle. How often do you really take the time to look up and appreciate the sheer enormity of our galaxy? Feel inspired with a little bit of outdoor learning and download the SkyView Lite App whilst you’re here. The app allows you to point your device at the sky and instantly identify stars and constellations!

A dog-friendly holiday in Scotland

The Scottish Highland countryside is a candy shop of smells and sights for excited pups. As dog owners ourselves, Loch Melfort hotel is set up with your beloved family pets in mind. Our ground floor sea-view rooms are pet-friendly and open directly onto our spacious grounds – the perfect place for a morning sniff! We also provide doggy essentials such as towels and treats, so you needn’t worry about packing the car full of your pooch’s travel accessories.

We’re usually so busy fulfilling our need to explore far away lands that we often forget the natural beauty that’s right on our doorstep. Have you ever taken a stroll down the pretty beach of Ganavan Sands? Scrambled amongst the ruins of Dunadd Fort? Scoured the West Coast shores for a seal or otter spotting? Now’s the time to take a holiday in Scotland and tick off a few of those bucket-list moments closer to home!
