Meet Loch Melfort Hotel’s Head Chef, David Carroll. Heading up our delicious Restaurant, he has been working hard to put his own twist on things, source from our on-site vegetable garden, and create a menu that people want to sample again and again. In this interview we get to hear all about David’s inspirations and his love for local produce.
When did you decide you wanted to be a Chef?
When I was younger, I used to watch and help my parents in the kitchen. After I finished school, I started washing dishes in my local hotel and was more interested in what the Chefs were doing than the dishes. This is when the Head Chef threw a set of whites at me and told me to get stuck in rather than watch.
What attracted you to Loch Melfort Hotel and the opportunity to cook for our customers?
After travelling around Scotland on agency work, I ended up here at Loch Melfort Hotel where the staff and local produce was amazing – and also, not forgetting, the stunning view that lines the hotel.
Where do you get your cooking inspiration from?
My love for eating food when I was younger inspired me to cook and create plates of food from the fantastic produce that Scotland has to offer.
What is your favourite cuisine?
It’s really hard to say my favourite, as I love all foods. But, if I have to choose, it would be between classic French or Italian.
