We couldn’t talk about our favourite whiskies without mentioning one of the nearest distilleries to us, Oban
Oban Whisky distillery is situated in the middle of Oban, and is a great stopover on any visit of the town. Nestled in a quiet cobbled street, it is a lovely building with great views of the harbour. Oban is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland but it has a strong reputation. It started off as a brewery in the late 18th century, and became more dedicated to distilling in the first part of the 19th century, so there is a long tradition at play here.
Whilst Oban offers a range of malts on offer, our favourite is the 14 year old. Slowly distilled in small glass stills, it has been described as smooth and creamy. Whilst it does have peat undertones, the Oban 14-year is less smoky than other whiskies, more honeyed and fruity, with hints of citrus fruit and sea salt. A lovely whisky to enjoy on another occasion.
This 14-year old Malt is the one you would taste on a distillery tour, together with crystallised ginger. Enjoy in moderation.
