The Loch Melfort area abounds with diverse mammals, birds, marine life, insects, flora and fauna and many of our guests delight in telling us their wildlife sightings.
Perhaps you've seen a golden eagle riding the thermals, dolphins jumping through the waves, or a rare orchid hiding in the grass. Whatever you've seen, we would like to know about it, so please fill in the details of your sighting on our wildlife diary form and come back often to keep up with the latest wildlife sightings.

Saw a large heron sitting on top of the duck house as I went down to feed the ducks. Managed to get quite close before it took off and flew over the pond, the bay and back towards Arduaine Garden.

Gary Devenay spotted a Otter on Monday, 21 September 2009 at 14:00
On a boat trip to the Corryvreckan whirlpool we saw two otters on the shore of Luing island. One was scampering over the rocks while the other was swimming and diving among the kelp. Usually otters are shy but these two seemed to like our attention
Harry Young spotted a Fox on Tuesday, 15 December 2009 at 11:00
We were walking through some woodland when we saw a fox running towards us in a nearby field. It darted through the trees and disappeared. Soon we heard some “barking” coming from the ground and thought it might be some cubs hiding in their den.

Porpoise were following our boat on the way to the Corryvreckan. They just appeared out of nowhere and were “bow riding” and circling the boat.
