Wines and the Loch Melfort Hotel 'philosophy'

Calum and Rachel’s wine list is a selection chosen to enhance your dining experience.
The list has been put together in conjunction with Inverarity Vaults, Scotland’s leading independent Wine Merchant.

Our aim is to provide interesting wines that remain well priced, looking ideally for family owned producers whose wines reflect the traditions of their district rather than the requirements of large retailers. The selection is designed to cover the flavours and staples of our menu and includes some established classics as well as some quirky newcomers. Our house Champagne is Poilvert-Jacques. Although not a household name, the family-run vineyard has a tradition of cultivating vines going back to the 17th century and produces delicious wines of outstanding value.

With the freshest langoustines, crab, lobster and other shellfish straight from Asknish Bay in front of our Hotel, try a crisp refreshing white like the Colombard based wine from the Cotes de Gascogne or dry Riesling from New Zealand. For slightly richer seafood dishes, the unusual Crozes Hermitage Blanc and the Gavi ‘La Zerba’ deserve at least the recognition of more famous wines like Chablis and Sancerre.

Let’s not forget the reds, where “proprietors’ choice” is very much the powerful ‘Johann’s Garden’ from the renowned Henschke family in Australia. Alternatively, why not match some of our fabulous Argyll venison or beef and lamb from Barbreck Farm down the road in Ardfern with a Classic Burgundy French Red from Joseph Drouhin.

Cocktail Bar

Join us every evening in our cosy lounge for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap at the bar. Cocktails are a house speciality if you want something mixed specially for you, or why not select one of our large range of specialist gins. For the whisky connoisseur, our diverse collection of single malts will entice you to enjoy a wee dram by the fire before retiring for a peaceful night’s sleep.
