From what I have heard, the National Trust appears to have made a complete mess of the administration of this garden ever since it took over. Now they want to cap it all by closing it. Shame on them – it is a jewel on the west coast of Scotland and would be sorely missed.

I believe the gardens would attract more visitors if dogs (on leads) were allowed in. We were hugely disappointed to discover that we couldn’t take our two “boys” around the gardens with us so we went somewhere else where they were welcome. I’m sure other visitors with dogs must have similar views and the gardens would attract more dog lovers if our 4-legged friends were allowed in! I appreciate that not everyone is a dog lover, but if the dogs are well behaved (and the owners clean up after them!) I see no reason not to allow them in. I presume children are allowed in, whether they are well behaved or not, so why not dogs?
Hope this helps – we would certainly visit next time we’re staying at Loch Melfort Hotel if we could take our dogs.
